The US Treasury Department is looking into the design of a potential central bank digital currency (CBDC) and the technical and policy issues it would entail. Under Secretary for Domestic Finance Nellie Liang discussed the potential use of wCBDC and rCBDC,as well as access issues,financial inclusion,and global demand for the US dollar. She stated that a CBDC would only be issued with Congressional support and that it is one of several options available to upgrade legacy capabilities.
