Binance helped US authorities freeze 44M linked to DPRK cybercrime orgs

Binance-US Authorities Freeze Crypto DPRK Cybercrime Binance,one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges,partnered with US authorities to freeze assets associated with cybercrime activities committed by Lazarus Group - a hacking group widely believed to be backed by North Korea. The group reportedly used phishing and malware attacks to obtain and launder cryptocurrencies worth millions of dollars. Binance's cooperation with the US Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in this operation represents a significant development in the ongoing fight against cybercrime in the cryptocurrency space.
2. North Korea's Connection to Cybercrime Despite widespread international sanctions,North Korea has been accused of using cyberattack tactics to obtain funds for its government. Lazarus Group has been linked to previous cyberattacks on various financial institutions and is believed to be behind the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack. By leveraging its technical expertise,North Korea could use these illegally obtained funds to support its weapons program and circumvent international sanctions.
