1. Two Crypto Services Suspended in Hong Kong: French Crypto hardware wallet provider Ledger has halted its recovery service and Web3,a browser, has suspended its operations in Hong Kong. The suspension of Ledger's service is due to the fact that their partner,Arkeon Finance, was affected by a hack in October 2020. Web3's suspension is due to a regulatory crackdown on the crypto industry by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
2. Another Hong Kong CEX Shut-Down: The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has denied renewing the license of yet another crypto exchange in Hong Kong. The exchange in question is GGBTC,which was established in the city in 2018. According to the SFC,the exchange failed to meet its regulatory standards, and as such,it posed a high risk to investors.
3. Hong Kong Crypto Regulations: Hong Kong has recently been tightening its regulations on the crypto industry. Earlier this year, the city's securities regulator announced that it would be introducing a new licensing regime for the virtual asset trading platforms. The regulator further stated that every cryptocurrency exchange operating in Hong Kong would be required to apply for an SFC license or risk closure. Additionally,in November of 2020,the SFC published a position paper on regulation for virtual asset portfolio managers and distributors. The paper outlined a licensing regime for these entities.
