Republican Senator Ted Cruz has introduced a bill to block the United States Federal Reserve from launching a “directtoconsumer” central bank digital currency (CBDC) which could be used as a financial surveillance tool. The bill is backed by Republican Senators Mike Braun and Chuck Grassley,who both expressed the belief that a CBDC would be used as a surveillance tool. Meanwhile,U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have recently introduced their own antiCBDC bills,citing privacy concerns surrounding CBDCs.
