The White House recently released its annual economic report which included a section on digital assets. While the report acknowledged that certain aspects of the digital asset ecosystem can cause problems,it concluded that "crypto assets currently do not offer widespread economic benefits." The report also failed to mention the largest derivatives product available to U.S.based users Bitcoin and Ether futures offered by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and left out Deribit,the largest options exchange by volume. This omission is likely due to the fact that these exchanges are seen as shadowy or unsafe,but there is an alternative in decentralized finance (DeFi). While regulations have an important role in any industry,lack of clarity from regulatory bodies stifles innovation in the derivatives space.
