1. Proposed Bill to Provide Crypto Regulatory Clarity US lawmakers have introduced a bill aimed at providing regulatory clarity regarding cryptocurrencies in the country. The legislation,called the Eliminate Barriers to Innovation Act of 2021,would ensure that any digital token or digital asset is exempted from securities laws if it meets a few criteria such as it has to be "solely for a consumptive purpose." 2. Democrat Senators at the Forefront Democrat Senators Cynthia Lummis,Pat Toomey,and Kyrsten Sinema are among the lawmakers behind the proposed bill. Lummis,a vocal pro-crypto advocate,believes that the lack of regulatory clarity in the US around cryptocurrencies stifles innovation and hinders its development as an asset class. Toomey,on the other hand,believes that the existing regulations do not befit the crypto industry,and the proposed bill would provide the much-needed clarity to the industry to foster innovation.

Resistance from the SEC and Concerns over Investor Protection While the proposed bill has garnered support from the crypto industry,it is expected to face opposition from the SEC,which has been pushing for stricter regulations for the industry in the US. Critics of the bill have raised concerns over how it could potentially jeopardize investor protection and limit the SEC's authority in regulating cryptocurrency markets. However,supporters argue that the proposed bill would help establish a better regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology,ultimately driving innovation and growth.
